10 years?!? wow!!!haha wow, i just noticed that I've officially been on deviantart for 10 years now. gotta draw something to commemorate that soon! i'm not gonna lie, it means quite a lot to me. even though i didn't know it at the time, putting my artwork online and joining art communities like deviantart has become the foundation of pretty much my entire LIFE as i know it now. i mean i started uploading my artwork to this site for fun, just to get in touch with other artists and gain some exposure, and now it is my career. i firmly believe that my fanbase here on deviantart and the things i've learned here have EVERYTHING to do with me being able to work as a freelance artist. i discovered so many inspiring and great artists through this site. the reason i chose the Utrecht School of the Arts as my college was because i followed Bakenius and loved his work; when i didn't like the school i was attending at the time, i contacted him through deviantart notes and he advised me to check out his school
this is my final say in the argument against natural born talent vs skill. we all start out by drawing scribbles that slightly resemble things. i was about 3 yrs old here., and had probably already been drawing for some time since i was brought up in a family of artists. drawing only gives back with the time we give to it, and it takes a lot of patience, more needed in the beginning, and a lot of determination to keep at it even though we are continually frustrated.
hope this inspires some of you to keep going, or some of you to start, it will be even better if more of you, my dA friends, stop making excuses saying you werent born with the ability to make your dreams come true. the only thing holding you back is yourself. drawing is but a skill which we learn through lots of practice, determination, observation and patience. if you also have the undenied passion for it, you may see yourself getting further than others.
it also helps if you're able to be ho

much too bright.
Even though my eyes were closed
I could see it-
The skin of my arms prickled,
sweat dripped from my brow.
It was two in the afternoon but…
the sun was setting
through the window facing east.
I should have seen the hutch,
shelves lined with bone china
decorated with delicate leaves and vines.
I was so thirsty
and reaching for cups that should have been there.
Instead I found a billboard of butterflies,
the colors raging
more than any rainbow
I'd ever seen.
Their wings fluttered and flashed
yet somehow they moved in slow motion.
I wanted to stand,
wanted to reach out and touch them but…
I couldn't move,
and yet I laughed
ignoring my dry mouth
and the tingling in my feet.
There was a tempest
on the rise
and in my blood.
A sugar rush disguised
as a riot of butterflies
and they were swarming me.
There was a small vial
of insulin in my pocket
that I nev
